How to Use Recipe and Ingredient Codes

Learn how to assign unique codes to your recipes and ingredients to keep your database organized and searchable.

As your recipe and ingredient library grows, finding what you need quickly becomes important. Food Label Maker lets you assign a unique code to each recipe and each custom ingredient, giving you an internal reference system that makes it easy to search, organize, and track your data. This is especially useful for teams managing large product catalogs or working with internal SKU and item code systems.

How to Assign a Code to a Recipe

  1. Open a recipe or create a new one

  2. Look for the Recipe Code field in the recipe setup area

  3. Enter your unique code (for example, an internal SKU, product number, or any naming convention your team uses)

  4. Save the recipe

The code is now attached to that recipe and can be used to locate it later.

How to Assign a Code to a Custom Ingredient

  1. Go to the Custom Ingredients section

  2. Open an existing ingredient or create a new one

  3. Look for the Ingredient Code field

  4. Enter your unique code and save

This works the same way as recipe codes, giving each ingredient its own searchable identifier.

How to Search by Code

Once your recipes and ingredients have codes assigned, you can use the search bar to find them by code instead of by name. Simply type the code into the search bar, and the matching recipe or ingredient will appear in the results.

This is particularly helpful when you have products with similar names but distinct formulations, or when your team references items by internal codes rather than product names.
