How to Translate Custom Ingredients and Labels into Multiple Languages

Learn how to translate your custom ingredient names, common names, and sub-ingredients for international label formats like Canadian bilingual, Mexican, and Arabic labels.

If you sell products in multiple markets, your labels need to display ingredient information in the appropriate languages. Food Label Maker lets you translate your custom ingredients into multiple languages with a single click, and those translations will automatically appear on the correct label formats when you generate labels for different regions.

The translation feature covers the ingredient name, common name, and sub-ingredients, so the full ingredient declaration is localized for each market.

How to Translate a Custom Ingredient

  1. Navigate to the Custom Ingredients section

  2. Find the ingredient you want to translate and click the Translate option

  3. You will see fields for the ingredient name, common name, and sub-ingredients in each available language

  4. Click Translate All Languages to auto-translate everything at once

The translations are fully editable, so you can review and adjust any of them before saving.

How Translations Appear on Your Labels

Once your ingredient translations are saved, they will automatically populate on the corresponding label formats. For example:

  • Canadian labels will display both English and French ingredient information on the same label

  • Mexican labels will display ingredient information in Spanish

  • Arabic labels will display ingredient information in Arabic

To preview how translations look on a specific label format, go to your recipe's Customize Label tab and switch between different regional label formats. The translated ingredient names will appear in the ingredient list for each format.

Tips for Accurate Translations

  • Review auto-generated translations before publishing, especially for technical or specialized ingredient names

  • If your ingredient has a regulatory-specific name in a particular market, update the translation to match the required terminology

  • Sub-ingredient translations are handled separately, so check those as well when reviewing
