How to Create and Customize a Compliant Nutrition Label with Food Label Maker

Create and customize compliant nutrition labels in minutes with Food Label Maker—fast, accurate, and tailored to your need

Creating a fully compliant and customized nutrition label is simple with Food Label Maker. We offer two ways to create labels: use our self-service software or hire our experts for guaranteed compliance. Whether you're labeling products for the US, Canada, EU, UK, Australia, New Zealand, or beyond, you can follow these steps to get started with our software or contact us about expert services.

Additionally, for businesses spanning multiple countries, Food Label Maker ensures compliance by enabling the creation of labels tailored to each country's regulations.

🔹 Step 1: Set Up Your Recipe

Start by entering your recipe name, selecting a category, and defining the serving size. Make sure to specify whether your recipe is a solid or liquid—this ensures the correct label format is applied. Additionally, include precise ingredient quantities for accurate nutrition calculations, ensuring consistent calorie content in generated labels.

🔹 Step 2: Build Your Recipe

Use the Recipe Builder to search and add ingredients from our growing, nutritionist-verified ingredient database. The system also automatically calculates calorie content and other nutritional details as you add ingredients, making manual calculations unnecessary. When entering ingredients, prioritize using weight units like grams or pounds for accuracy. If using volume units, ensure to provide the density for precise conversions.

The Food Label Maker system streamlines the calculation process by automatically determining calorie content, macronutrients, and other nutrition facts based on your input. This ensures both accuracy and time efficiency, allowing you to focus on perfecting your recipe. For instance, when entering liquids by volume, providing the correct density (e.g., 0.97 g/mL for cooking sherry wine) ensures accurate nutritional calculations.

Can’t find an ingredient? No problem! Use the Custom Ingredients section to add your own. Once saved, your custom ingredients will be available for all future recipes. Additionally, you can use the built-in Regulatory Bot tool to find appropriate density values for both liquid and dry ingredients, ensuring accurate conversions. If entering custom ingredients using volume units, remember to input the correct density to ensure accurate conversions and compliance.

🔹 Step 3: Get Instant Results

As you build your recipe, your Nutrition Facts Label updates in real time. Preview your labels to ensure all details align with regional regulations before finalizing. This includes automatic calorie calculations and updates, helping to ensure complete compliance and accuracy with minimal effort.

  • Allergens are automatically detected using our integrated allergen scanner.

  • An Ingredient Statement List is automatically generated in descending order by weight, following regulatory guidelines.

🔹 Step 4: Customize Your Label

Now it’s time to personalize your label to suit your brand and market requirements: Traffic light labels and %RI (Reference Intake) percentages can also be enabled for an enhanced consumer experience.

  1. Choose Your Label Style Select from pre-designed label formats that are compliant with local regulations in different countries and regions.

  2. Show/Hide Nutrients Customize your label by selecting which nutrients, vitamins, or minerals to include.

  3. Change Label Language Easily translate your label into supported languages like Spanish, French, Arabic, and more. For Spanish, open your existing label or the one you want to translate, navigate to the Customize Label section in the main menu, click on Change Language, and select Spanish from the options. Confirm, and your label updates instantly.

  4. Edit Allergen & Ingredient Statements To modify the ingredients or allergens list, click on the 'Customize Label' button, select the 'Ingredients/Allergens List' option, make your edits, and click the Save button in the upper right corner to apply changes.

  5. Add Extra Label Info Include your business name, address, production/expiry dates, storage instructions, or any other relevant details.

  6. Create FOP labels if required: We have Traffic light label formats (UK), Mexican and Canadian FOP. Select this option for a clear visual representation of nutritional content (e.g., fats, sugars, salt).

  7. Show Nutrition Values per 100g Navigate to the Customize Label section in the application. Select your preferred Label Style and, in the format options, locate the dropdown menu under "Other Formats." Choose the "100 g report" option to apply this format to your label.

  8. Adjust Reference Intakes To include %RI (Reference Intake) values on your label, ensure that the selected label style supports this feature. The %RI values will automatically calculate based on the nutritional data entered in the Recipe Setup page.9. Show Nutrition Values per Serving Go to the Recipe Setup page and adjust the serving/basis settings to calculate nutrition values for a specific serving size. Save your changes to apply the per-serving format to your label. Alternatively, you can select a label format that combines both per 100g and per serving values by opening the Customize Label section, choosing your desired Label Style and Format, and selecting "100g / per serving" from the format dropdown.

🔹 Step 5: Download Your Label

Once everything looks perfect, export your label in high-resolution formats like PDF, SVG, PNG, or BMP—ideal for packaging and design.
