How to Set Your Default Settings

You can configure Default Settings in Food Label Maker to control how new recipes, ingredient searches, units, and labels behave automatically.

Setting your defaults helps save time and ensures your recipes and labels follow the correct regulatory format and measurement system.

⚠️ Important: These settings only apply to newly created recipes.


Where to Change Default Settings

To configure your defaults:

  1. Click the dropdown menu next to your name icon on the top right corner

  2. Go to Settings

  3. Click Default Settings

  4. Adjust your preferred settings

  5. Click Save

You can control which ingredient databases are used when searching for ingredients.

How to Select Default Ingredient Database(s)

Options include:

  • All Databases – Searches both USDA and your custom ingredient library

  • USDA Database

  • Custom Ingredient Library

Selecting All Databases ensures the system searches across all available ingredient sources.


How to Set the Default Country / Region

Your default country determines which regulatory rules are applied when calculating nutrition values and generating labels.

Available options include:

  • United States

  • Canada

  • United Kingdom

  • Australia or New Zealand

  • European Union

  • Mexico

  • Foodservice labels

  • Per 100 g report

  • GCC

    Example:
    If you select United States, recipes will follow FDA labeling rules.


How to Set the Default Label Format

You can choose which label format is generated by default.

Supported label formats include:

  • FDA (United States)

  • CFIA (Canada)

  • UK

  • EU

  • Australia and New Zealand

  • Mexico

  • GCC

This ensures your nutrition labels follow the correct regulatory layout.


How to Set Default Units

You can configure the unit system used when entering ingredients.

Default Unit System

Choose your preferred measurement system:

  • g

  • mg

  • mL

  • lb

  • oz

and more


Weight Units

Available weight units include:

  • g

  • kg

  • mg

  • mcg

  • lb

  • oz


Volume Units

Available volume units include:

  • L

  • mL

  • fl oz

  • tbsp

  • tsp

  • cup

  • qt

  • gallon

These units will appear when entering ingredient quantities in recipes.


Label Customization Defaults

You can set how labels are generated by default.

Aggregate All Sub-Recipes

When enabled, Food Label Maker automatically combines nutrition values from all sub-recipes.


Default Rounding Strategy for %DV

Choose how Daily Value percentages are rounded on labels based on regulatory guidelines.


Show Abbreviated Nutrient Names

Displays shortened nutrient names on labels.

Example:

  • Vitamin C → Vit C

  • Potassium → K


Default Label Export Settings

You can control how labels are exported.

Default Export Format

Available export formats include:

  • PNG

Your selected format will be used automatically when exporting labels.


Default Label Notes

You can set text that will automatically appear on newly generated labels.

Default Business Name / Address

Enter the business name and address that should appear on your labels.


Additional Label Notes

Add any default notes or statements you want included on labels.

Example:

  • Keep refrigerated after opening.


Additional Allergen Statements

You can set default allergen statements that will automatically appear on labels.

Example:

  • May contain: Milk, Soy, Wheat.


Tip: Setting your default settings helps streamline recipe creation and ensures your labels follow your preferred regulatory format automatically.
